The Succession of White Spire

's syndicates, gangs, and secret societies had not pulled the city into chaos because held its underworld together. She was murdered 'last week', whenever that was, and her death left a power vacuum. Four figures stepped forward to claim her place as the voice of White Spire: , Enno, , and .

Hobgen alone is explicitly identified as Eeb's former lieutenant; Jull explicitly says he wants to restore order. No killer is named, and no winner: the succession is not settled.

The hero's story

Enno is the King of the and one of the four claimants to 's place. He rules 's pickpockets and scavengers. The Warrens are refuse-filled alleys outsiders dismiss as slums, and a kingdom to him; his people survive at the city's margins by scavenging and stealing, and he means to lead them into greatness by any underhanded tactic he can devise.

How he became king takes one line. He poisoned the water supply, and a whole lot of people died. His seneschal transcribes his proclamations, among them a call for all of White Spire to band together against worshipers in the Warrens, and questions the safe harbor he gives the Meepos.
