The Age of Light

After left the Fundamental plane, an age of light began; 's own history gives it that name. Some of the first sun's lineage became the , raised armies against primordial night, and made Valora as their greatest living weapon. Their last plan sent her after a source of power Valora leaves unnamed in her own account.

She failed, and the Children's spark went out; by her own words the failure had to do with Io, and with the chaos her makers had meant to turn Io's power against. Valora drifted until a wandering young star restored their buried forge and woke her. Phoenix, a young traveling star of the first sun's lineage, fits the reviver's description.

Night Stalker keeps a separate memory of the same darkness: at the dawn of the First Day every creature of night but Balanar perished.

Dawnbreaker's history names the age. Phoenix fits the star that woke her, and the First Day may be the same darkness; neither is said outright.

The hero's story

Balanar belongs to the stories of an impossible time before sunlight and daytime, when covered the world. Night Stalker's official biography says every night creature but one perished at the dawn of the First Day, leaving Balanar as the survivor and the archetype of the Night Terror. 's separate biography says the built armies to purge primordial night.

The two accounts fit together, though neither names the other; whether the Children caused the First Day is left unsaid.

Official biography
Read Valve's biography

Of the Night Stalker, there is no history, only stories. There are ancient tales woven into the lore of every race and every culture, of an impossible time before sunlight and daytime, when night reigned alone and the world was covered with the creatures of darkness--creatures like Balanar the Night Stalker.

It is said that on the dawn of the First Day, all the night creatures perished. All, that is, save one. Evil's embodiment, Night Stalker delights in his malevolence. He created the primal role of the Night Terror, the Boogeyman, and as long as there have been younglings, his is the specter summoned to terrify them. This is a role he relishes; nor are these empty theatrics. He does indeed stalk the unwary, the defenseless, those who have strayed beyond the lighted paths or denied the warnings of their communities. Night Stalker serves as living proof that every child's worst nightmare....is true.
