The Summoning of Enigma

The alchemist Cedric prepared with borrowed rigor: a summoning invocation from Elze, a Turstarkurian rite of binding, seventeen spells in all.

Cedric summons the being he thinks found godhood and learns the promised path may have been bait.

The story

The alchemist prepared with borrowed rigor: a summoning invocation from , a Turstarkurian rite of binding, seventeen spells in all. Enigma answered, and the wards seemed to hold, until the Dark Fundamental stepped out of the circle and made clear they never had. Cedric wanted the missing last page of Jovat Kazran's roadmap to godhood, certain the being before him had walked it first.

Cedric asserts that Enigma was Kazran; Enigma denies any Kazran ever existed and calls the journals his own lures, planted where inventive alchemists would find them and build him ingenious toys. He claimed the spacetime bracers Cedric had built as a trade, granted the alchemist his promised glimpse of what being Enigma means, and left Cedric visibly changed. Then he called him along through the void portal.

There was, he said, a war to fight.

Where the thread rests

Cedric goes through the void portal after Enigma, visibly changed, with a war to fight.
