The Returns of Krobelus

Krobelus has died more times than anyone alive, and death keeps handing her back. She told fortunes for the rich who wanted a look past the veil, and after years of asking on other people's behalf she began asking about herself. Death would not answer, so she offered her life for the answer, and the price was not enough.

Death disgorged her, and did it again, and again, and kept its deepest secret every time. She grew jealous of the dead. Each time she came back she brought some of death with her.

Wraiths trailed her like pieces of a broken soul, her blood ran thin and ectoplasmic, and the feasting creatures of twilight took her for one of their own. She dies more fervently each time, with no client left but herself, chasing the one prophecy that still slips her: that one day the Death Prophet will not return. It has not happened yet.
