Paz Waits for Nightfall
Paz promises a rapturous death and eternity beside Balanar as her cult waits for nightfall. The has camped on the frigid northernmost edge of , following the shortest days. No fire breaks the cold, since the cult forbids any light.
Paz’s own eyes are gone, gouged out for the darkness, and when she asks brightly whether Goodkind has embraced the night, Goodkind lies and says she has. “When He arrives, you will be rewarded,” Paz says with a grim, thin-lipped grin. Legend says Balanar stalks alone, and Goodkind wonders why his followers are so sure he will want company. The last sliver of sun bows behind a rocky crag, the cold swells, and Paz’s eyeless smile makes Goodkind shiver more than the cold. “He comes,” she whispers.
Paz promises a reward from Balanar; Goodkind sees neither his arrival nor his acceptance of the cult.
